Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been a wedding photographer and what makes you different from everyone else?
I’ve photographed weddings for more than 10 years, and have documented more than 200 marriages. I studied photography at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and upon graduating, found myself in New York City where I started my career as a photographer. I’ve photographed nearly every subject matter such as still life, fashion, beauty, editorial and commercial assignments.
What I discovered along the way, is that I’m great at telling stories through my pictures. I have the calm patience to observe and capture every moment without disrupting the flow of the wedding day. I am not only an artist who offers years of creative know how, but one with the technical expertise and vision necessary to capture your wedding day.
What type of couples do you work best with?
All of my couples have a true love and admiration for photography. Most are successful young professionals who desire creative photography that’s not just the standard stand over there and smile into the lens approach. My clients are people who know that their first priority is to enjoy their wedding day and celebrate. They want to share their photographs with family and friends. My clients are more concerned with the emotional impact of the images and the creativity that I can explore, rather than just having a list of pictures for me to accomplish. My couples understand that this is a once in a lifetime event and want the very best photography.
There is a lot of talk about style of photography, where do you fit in?
I consider myself a blend of styles. First of all, I have a strong bias towards photojournalism. I believe the wedding photographer should capture the day as it naturally occurs and not stage or pose every moment.
On the other hand, I love creative portraiture. My goal is to come away from your wedding with a beautiful portrait that defines the essence of who you are as a couple. Yes, this creative portrait is a planned situation, and less about photo-journalism, but my goal is to make it feel like it’s natural and has happened spontaneously.
I also love wedding details and found objects and feel they too are just as important to capture.
My photography conforms to contemporary trends but is also very expressive at the same time. Here are some adjectives that I have heard about my photography: emotional, vibrant, bright, clear, powerful, compelling, and joyful.
Will you work with the other vendors I’ve already found?
Yes, of course. I am a team player and well respected in the wedding vendor community. If you are looking for a particular vendor, I’m happy to recommend the following wedding professionals.
This all sounds perfect for my wedding but also seems expensive. Are we going to be able to afford all this?
Wedding photography is an investment and is one of only a few physical items that you will hold onto for the rest of your life. The value of my photography is that it brings you back to your wedding day every time you look at your pictures.
However, I truly understand your need to stick within your photography budget, and that you only wish to obtain more information about my services to make sure it’s a good fit for you. Fill out this questionnaire, and I give you access to my online pricing.
Do you take credit cards and can we have a payment plan?
Yes, I happily accept all major credit cards. I offer a discount for those couples who wish to pay with cash/check. My basic payment plan is: 50% due at the signing of the contract, then balance due on the wedding day. You can even track all aspects of the photography process/billing through a custom online client website that I provide.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes, I have the necessary liability insurance that allows me to work everywhere. If your venue requires proof of coverage, I’m happy to oblige by providing them with a certificate and I do not charge you for this added service.
Do you take more than one wedding per day?
Impossible. I dedicate the day to you alone. When you hire Chris Leary, I will be there from start to finish, period.
Where are you located, do you travel?
I am currently based in New York City, but I’d love to shoot your wedding wherever it is – from coast to coast and everywhere in between.
May we contact some of your former clients to see what it’s like to work with you?
Yes, absolutely! My past brides, grooms and their families have become raving fans of my wedding services. I can honestly say that I have 100% customer satisfaction. Feel free to look at my client testimonials here now.
We have a couple more questions before getting started…can I call you to discuss this further?
